We have a probe that checks ICMP success rate on a remote Cisco device to another remote Cisco device.

It could be modified to login to a computer and work with traceroute to look for the "4 baic-nod3 (121.122.70.4)" string. Assumes your alternate route has a different number of hops.

Subject: [IM-Talk] traceroute check redundant WAN connections

Folks,

We have build redundancy in a WAN connection, using two paths.
I want to check the standard route, so I can give an alarm when the
system is switching to the redundant path.
Traceroute looks to me the tool but how to implement this in Imapper??
  Has anyone built the check?

  Regards Hans Heger

  [r-net51:~] network% traceroute 121.122.70.4
