Dave,
Is your router showing as down or maybe in alarm mode?

Actually both. It appears to go down for 24, 27 or 57 seconds and when it comes back up on the map it's showing packet losses in the 35% range, keeping it in alarm mode. The outages occur fairly frequently, on the order of 10 outages in half an hour.

I have a similar
issue with many end nodes sporadically going into alarm mode due to
packet loss but when I check into it I can't find anything wrong and
everything is working fine. I have come to the best guess conclusion
that it's probably the NIC card on the PC I have Intermapper running on.
If the NIC card is losing packets then it will probably show as a
mis-reading on the map.

I would tend to think it would be mapwide instead of just a single device, or at least a random device (or devices) when it happens. It's always the same device on our map - our corporate router. Our map has 191 devices on it (routers, switches, networked printers, computers - typical business stuff), so it's pretty specific. Also interesting is the fact that all remote branches (there are 6) are coming through this router, yet don't show any problems on the map even when the router does.

I've even tried running ping tests from this machine when the "problem" happens (both to the router itself and to public servers on the other side of it) and haven't noticed any dropped packets even when the router is showing as "down". That would tend to clear the NIC itself, wouldn't it?

Now I could be totally wrong but because of this
I have decided to move Intermapper to an empty blade server I have along
with all my other tools. I had to find an excuse to fill it up with
something anyway...

It would be interesting to know if this fixes your issue or not. Considering a machine reboot "fixes" the problem for me, I'm also thinking it's something gone awry on the machine itself. The key is what - nothing else seems affected by this. I'd almost go so far as to call this a trivial issue, except I'm used to trusting Intermapper to tell me when I'm about to get flooded with calls and I don't want to lose that trust.

I get this list in digest mode and haven't seen anything from Janice in the digest yet, but she's filled out a support ticket for me (I got a copy directly - thank you Janice!). I need to grab and filter some log files for her, but if we discover anything informative I'll let you know.
