I have also been trying to figure out the best way to have a standby or backup InterMapper server, one that would take over sending pages and emails if it notices the primary server is down.
Issues or design items: 1) How to setup/maintain a primary/secondary network monitoring system - two servers at different locations. 2) Only the primary server is used to make changes to map and configuration. 3) Keeping secondary in sync with primary 4) Having secondary generate any pages or emails for notifications, only when primary is unreachable This may have been easier to do before the Database Version, but now, I am trying to rethink how to handle this with the database involved. One options was to tar up the maps and copy them over to the secondary, the only issue is that it is recommended to have IM down when saving/copying the environment to another system. But we can't afford to have InterMapper down for any period of time. I am also looking for any suggestions on how to do this. Setting up a production secondary monitor is on my list of things to do :) Thanks, Steven Good Network Engineer - Network Communications Information and Technology Services Rochester Institute of Technology (585) 475-2702 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail. This feature would be very beneficial to alleviate duplicating work and removing the needs to external scripts of some sort.
