Tex, No, the problem didn't occur when I upgraded to IM 5.0.5. I had been using IM Server and Remote 5.0.5 ever since they were released. The update that seemed to trigger the problem was Security Update 2008-007 from Apple. However as I explained in my follow-up message that turned out to be coincidental. When I installed IM Remote on a Mac without the security update and on a PC, they had the same slowness problem.
Another list member suggested by private e-mail that the size of my chart data files might be causing the problem. It had been a while since I last pruned them via Chart Options, and as it turned out the extreme slowness and freezing prevented me from doing that. I stopped IM Server, renamed the Chart Data directory, created a new empty Chart Data directory, and restarted IM Server. That seems to have solved the problem. I don't like losing that data, but at least I can see what my network is doing again. Which raises a question: IM Server allows us to specify how often to rotate log files and how long to keep them. Why can't we also specify how long to retain chart data? I know we can truncate the data via Chart Options for each chart, but that's pretty tedious if there are a lot of charts with a lot of data sets. Or is that capability there and I've somehow missed it? -- Chip Old (Francis E.
