You won't see the InterMapper server automatically appear in your map list; you'll need to add it to the map list manually. Otherwise, as Jakob says, if you've done the forwarding in the router and adjusted the firewall rules in the Remote Server server settings panel, it should just work. (I do this myself, so that I can see my personal InterMapper installation from elsewhere.) If none of this helps, please let us know what the failure looks like.
