If the server uses a SNMP probe, the interface speed reported in the Interfaces 
window should be correct (modulo any bugs in the SNMP agent).

If the server uses a non-SNMP probe, such as Ping or a TCP probe, InterMapper 
actually creates a "fake" interface and guesses the interface speed based on 
adjacent devices. This "fake" interface will appear in the Interfaces window 
with a description of "Guessed from address". You cannot count on the speed 
being correct, unfortunately.

For non-SNMP hosts, your only reliable (and remote) source for information 
about the interface speed is a directly-connected, managed switch.
