Exactly. That's why I mentioned the three possible variants with B
requiring ALL addresses to respond. However, in some cases, the dual
stack host may have prefixes from multiple providers, of which only some
are reachable from IM due to its topological location relative to the host
being probed.
(This tests the load balancer function.) But as the network admin, you need
to test each of the underlying servers that stand behind the load balancer to
be sure that they're all operating properly as well.
Right. InterMapper is a bit clumsy in handling these scenarios. Hence
we'd like to see options to test for the 3 cases I mentioned. Otherwise,
maps eventually will at least double in size as more servers become
dual-stacked.
An intermediate solution is to present a list of the returned addresses
from DNS instead of just assuming only IPv4 and allow each address to be
enabled or disabled for the probe.
