We didn't get as advanced as some are asking for, but we do have a backup
server ready to go if the primary fails.
on our main server, we us Windows backup to backup the settings? folder each
night.
the backup is FTPed to a server located in a different location
the backup is restored on the secondary server
Note:
the IM service on the secondary server is set to manual. When the primary
server goes done, we manually enable the service.
All the steps are automated via windows scheduler.

Subject: RE: [IM-Talk] maintaining map sync between two servers
Dear InterMapper Experts,
I am also facing a similar problem in providing redundancy for
InterMapper monitoring solution.
I have read the following threads:
#1
RE: [IM-Talk] maintaining map sync between two servers
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg04426.
html
#2
Re: [IM-Talk] Server Redundancy

Re: [IM-Talk] Re: Server Redundancy

In #1, Tony proposed using 2 IM server and provide some scripting
(external to IM) to sync the Maps and Charts of the 2 server.
However, what do we do with notification and existing recorded data?
Does this means we have 2 sets of recorded data in IMDC?
I like the proposal in Thread #2, to have InterMapper Primary and
Secondary architecture which can automatically sync maps, charts,
notification & preferences/settings, and have notification only kick in
on the secondary should the primary server failed.
Also, is it possible to have only secondary IM write to IMDC as the same
dataset of primary should the primary fail?
Since thread #2 date back to 2006, has this featured been implemented or
put on the roadmap for future release?
Lastly, is there an updated best-practice to provide redundancy then the
strategy mentioned in the threads above?
