This is an issue we have been facing for many years now, having 10 campuses with 22 buildings, 41 floors, two datacenters, dozens of network closets and dozens of equipped classrooms that need to be monitored.
Unfortunately, Vantage Points are map specific and no way to make one Vantage Point subordinate to another. Because of this, we have disabled all Notifiers due to people calling InterMapper InterSpammer and have reenabled a handful of critical notifiers for key devices. Another issue is that InterMapper randomly polls devices. Because you can't specify Vantage Point Subordinates, if a building edge router that is set as a Vantage Point for an 8 story building goes down, it is theoretically possible that all devices other than the building edge router are polled before InterMapper realizes that the Building Edge Router is down and I would then receive far too many notifications. Now having a vantage point per map for the floor/closet maps would reduce the total number of notifications I would receive, I would still receive far too many. Because of this issue, we are looking at sending the e-mail alerts to Microsoft SCOM (Service Manager) and try and build in some intelligence into the receiving end to determine when to create a ticket for a down situation, and update the ticket on an up condition. We aren't that far along in our thinking, but it is looking like it is going to be a big ugly mess. Hello, We maintain very large hotel networks with many devices on many floors. We are trying to make our maps smaller and more manageable by splitting them into submaps by floor. The problem I'm encountering with this is keeping our interface connections for the network hierarchy. We need to have the full network hierarchy defined so our notifications work correctly. What I would like to do is have the "master map" display a high level view of the network and the MDFs and IDFs. I'd like to create and icon that represents the status of a submap (one of the floors) that one can double click on to view detail. I know I can create a device that displays the overall status of a submap, but is there is any that the submap's vantage point can be attached to a device on another map? Hopefully my description makes sense. Any thoughts? Thanks. -------------------- m2f -------------------- Read this topic online here: http://forums.intermapper.com/viewtopic.php?p=4387#4387 ____________________________________________________________________ List archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/intermapper-talk%40list.dartware.com/ To unsubscribe: send email to: intermapper-talk-...@list.dartware.com ____________________________________________________________________ List archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/intermapper-talk%40list.dartware.com/ To unsubscribe: send email to: intermapper-talk-...@list.dartware.com
