Observe the output of PHP's "./configure --help":
"Some influential environment variables:
[...]
LDFLAGS linker flags, e.g. -L<lib dir> if you have libraries in a
nonstandard directory <lib dir>"
LDFLAGS is not just a convention, but is explicitly documented for
PHP, but it doesn't work, so this is clearly a bug.
