Hi Lukas,
Rock vs hard place - RC's were announced on php.net and distributed via
the download page for some several months in the past. It led to a lot of
user confusion, particularly when there were any binary compat breakages,
and the RMs went back to simply announcing RCs on the internals list due
to that.
Isn't there any half-way house on this?

Wez is still in the process of configuring things, but once its up there
will be an effective way of notifying the world at large about RC's.
I was thinking more of a separate downloads page... if it's going to be
announced on php.net (and it seems it is), it'd be good to keep RCs in a
completely separate place at least. I know everyone's been using
php.net/~ilia or php.net/~derick anyway, but would it be better to have a
consistent link page _just_ for RC's, perhaps with a paragraph on it
explaining exactly what a Release Candidate is?
Just my 2 sheks.
