So why keep supporting PHP 4 then?
Because people still use it. Yes, I know it's circular argument, but I don't think we should break the circle just yet. I think the best would be to have phase out plan (which should be officially out - like on php.net etc. - ASAP) which would give enough time (like a year or more) for everybody to move. And I know year seems very long time, but for moving big project it isn't that long.
