Conference Announcement "Global Feminisms: The Role of Women in Building States and Societies" International Conference Washington University St. Louis, MO (USA) 31 March - 1 April 2006
Washington University in St. Louis will be hosting an international conference entitled "Global Feminisms: The Role of Women in Building States and Societies," March 31st, 2006 thru April 1st, 2006. The conference will consist of three panels and a roundtable. The Feminism and Governance panel will explore women's and feminists' strategies for expanding women's citizenship into the political, social and economic realms. The Conflict, Gender, Violence, and Memory in Social and State Reconstruction panel will focus on how to conceptualize violence against women and examine how the frameworks of Truth Commissions address the needs of and offenses against women. The Feminism, Citizenship and Diversity panel will examine issues of ethnic and religious diversity. The roundtable discussion will center on Women and Gender Studies in the Twenty-First Century. Conference panelists include scholars from Croatia, India, Kenya, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, Poland, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, and the U.S. The conference is free and open to the public.
