"Courage"
Conference on the Cardinal Virtues

The 2008 conference is the second in a series of four
conferences on the cardinal virtues. We invite papers
examining the meaning, history, and practical implications
of the idea of courage as a virtue. We encourage submissions
from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.

Presentations may include the following topics:
- Courage in War
- Courage in Peace
- Leadership and Courage
- Cultural Variations on Courage
- Fear, Anger, and Pride
- Cowardice
- Learning to be Courageous

Keynote Speaker: Nancy Sherman
University Professor, Georgetown University Former
Distinguished Chair in Ethics, U.S. Naval Academy Fellow,
Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars

Presentation proposals should be no more than one-page in
length and include name, affiliation, address, and e-mail
address. Presentations will be limited to twenty minutes
with ample time provided for discussion. Proposals for panel
discussions and "works in progress" are encouraged. Deadline
for submissions is January 10, 2008. Proposals should be
mailed to Richard Kyte.
