Doctoral Fellowships in Political Philosophy

The Institute of Philosophy at the K.U.Leuven (Catholic University of
Leuven) in Belgium is currently accepting applications for Erasmus
Mundus PhD-fellowships from applicants who are nationals from the
Western Balkans (or students/staff at a Western Balkan partner
university), Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, or India (or students/staff
at an Indian partner university). Interested applicants can apply to
one of the following seven projects in political philosophy:

1. Democracy without Borders. An Inquiry into the Idea of Democracy  
   and its Legitimate Spread across the Globe
2. Global Distributive Justice from the Perspective of Deliberative  
   Democracy
3. The Ethics of Language Policy
4. The Moral Value of National Identities in a Globalizing World
5. Freedom and Wrongdoing
6. The Prospects of Global Public Reason
7. Voting Procedures and Equality

Applicants must have a Master in Philosophy or an equivalent  
Philosophy degree. Successful applicants will be expected to write a  
doctoral dissertation. They will receive full doctoral funding for 3  
years, and the Institute of Philosophy will provide assistance in  
obtaining funding for one extra year. Their research will be carried  
out within the Centre for Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy,  
and more specifically within its Research Group on Social and  
Political Philosophy (RGSPP). The application deadline is 30  
September 2009.

The ‘Western Balkans’ comprise Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia- 
Herzegovina, Kosovo and Macedonia. Partner Universities are Ss.
Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, University of Belgrade,  
University of Montenegro, University of Mostar, University of Novi  
Sad, University of Prishtina, University of Sarajevo, University of  
Tirana, and University of Tuzla. Partner universities in India are  
Anna University, Anurag Narayan College, IIT Guwahati, ITT Roorkee,  
National Law School of India University, Tamil Nadu Agricultural  
University, University of Kalyani and University of Pune.
