Call for Papers Theme: Greek Philosophy and Moral and Political Issues of Our Global Era Type: 26th International Conference of Philosophy Institution: International Association for Greek Philosophy (IAGP) International Center for Greek Philosophy and Culture (ICGPC) South African Society for Greek Philosophy and the Humanities Location: Vouliagmeni (Greece) Date: 12.–17.7.2014 Deadline: 28.2.2014 __________________________________________________ The Conference will be held in the town of Vouliagmeni (a sea-side resort of Athens area) at Amarilia Hotel from 12-17 of July 2014. The Conference aims to provide a broad forum for exploring moral and political issues which are crucial and relevant to our age in relation to the views expressed in Greek philosophy. One of the extraordinary features of Greek philosophy is that it places human beings, their conduct, and their modes of life and political association into physis. From this vantage point it inquired into the best possible life suited to the well-being of humans, both ideally and within the context of evolving social and political conditions. In this period of radical transformations we may, once again, turn to Greek philosophy to search for guidance and insight rooted in approaches that strive to comprehend human physis and the nature of moral political institutions of our era. We believe that the views of Pre-Socratics and the philosophies of Socrates and Plato, Aristotle and those that emerged during the post Aristotelian era, i.e., the philosophies of Epicurus, the Cynics, the Stoics and the views of other later thinkers can provide the basis for inquiry into the moral and political issues of our age and can serve to define approaches and ways leading to their understanding and providing solution of problems of our age. The Conference invites philosophers and particularly all those engaged in any of these prominent traditions of Greek philosophy to present papers and to discourse on the relevance of the concepts of these philosophies to the global political and moral issues of far ranging consequence that now face humanity. The Conference is open to all philosophers, specialists in Greek philosophy, to persons conducting research in philosophy, educationists, communication specialists, lawyers, politicians, government officials, and concerned citizens who are interested in understanding the complex relations among moral and political philosophy issues in our global era. The following topics are the proposed themes for framing the work of the Conference: 1. Solon, Cleisthenes, Aeschylus, Pythagoreans and other Pre-Socratic philosophers’ views in relation to the moral and political issues of our era 2. Socrates, Plato and Platonism and the moral and political issues of our global era 3. Aristotle and his tradition and the moral and political issues of our global age 4.
