Call for Applications Theme: Politics Beyond Borders Subtitle: The Republican Model Challenged by the Internationalization of Economy,Law and Communication Type: Istanbul Seminars 2015 Institution: Bilgi University Reset-Dialogues on Civilizations Location: Istanbul (Turkey) Date: 26.–30.5.2015 Deadline: 31.3.2015 __________________________________________________ The Istanbul Seminars 2015 will be held in ISTANBUL, BILGI UNIVERSITY, SANTRAL CAMPUS, 26-30 May 2015. We would like to welcome students and young scholars as well as all former participants to join the 8th edition of the Istanbul Seminars. THE TOPIC: The title of the Istanbul Seminars ‘15 is "Politics Beyond Borders. The Republican Model Challenged by the Internationalization of Economy, Law and Communication." The Arab Spring contested explicitly Republicanism as a political model that takes only poorly into account pluralism, cultural differences and the rights of minorities. Yet, how to move ahead? So far the Arab Spring resulted into political turmoil without bringing forth a viable and legitimate alternative political system. Does Republicanism still have emancipatory potential or does it have to be replaced by other, more cosmopolitan-oriented models? AMONG THE CONFIRMED SPEAKERS SO FAR: Albena Azmanova, Seyla Benhabib, Georges Corm, Alessandro Ferrara, Abdou Filiali-Ansary, Nilüfer Göle, Manlio Graziano, Mohammed Haddad, Riva Kastoriano, Regina Kreide, Ivan Krastev, Stephen Macedo, Max Pensky, David Rasmussen, Larbi Sadiki, Diego von Vacano. GRANTS AND ENROLLMENT: As usual, there is no fee of attendance. Reset-Dialogues does not arrange travel and accommodation for participants, but is happy to provide information and support through its website. A limited number of SMALL GRANTS (up to 300 euros) for Undergraduates, Graduates, PhDs and Post PhDs, is available. Applicants asking for a grant will be notified regarding the grant request by April 15th. Granted applicants are required to attend the whole program 26-30 May. The application deadline to apply for a grant is 31st March 2015. The enrollment deadline to apply without asking for a grant is 15th May 2015. A daily free lunch ticket to be spent at the Campus Cafeteria will be provided to all granted participants and to all enrolled participants. WORKING GROUPS: Both granted students/scholars and not granted enrolled participants may ask for being part of the discussion working groups. Participants involved in the working groups will receive some reading material by April 30th. Each working group will discuss the preliminary readings and the speeches given by the Speakers. At the end of the program each working group will present the results to the audience. Working groups meet daily at the end of the sessions, for about one hour.
