Making Connections: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Cultural
Diversity invites submissions for a themed special issue on Race and
‘Normalcy.’

“Race and ‘Normalcy,’” builds on Dr. Martin Luther King’s (1965)
address at the conclusion of the march, in which he states:

“The only normalcy that we will settle for is the normalcy that
recognizes the dignity and worth of all of God’s children. The only
normalcy that we will settle for is the normalcy that allows judgment
to run down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream. The
only normalcy that we will settle for is the normalcy of brotherhood,
the normalcy of true peace, the normalcy of justice.”

We seek manuscripts that focus on notions of “normalcy” through the
lens of race in contemporary America. The topic can be examined
through a variety of disciplines and frameworks, including but not
limited to: education, sociology, criminal justice, literature,
literacy and language studies, psychology, community health and
safety, social justice, mass incarceration and the modern industrial
prison complex, philosophical explorations of the topic(s), and
media/performance studies. We are also open to receiving submissions
that more broadly address the Selma march and/or explore the
continuing relevance of historical freedom movements in today’s world.

Submissions should be made in MS Word (.doc,/.docx) and sent via
email attachment to the Journal Co-Editors, Dr. Usree Bhattacharya
([email protected]) and Dr. Uraina Pack ([email protected]). The email
subject line should read: “Submission for Making Connections.”
Manuscripts should conform to current MLA or APA citation methods.

Submission deadline: August 31, 2015

Making Connections is a peer-reviewed journal published by the
