This to announce the Casablanca (new) Seminars, which include both a
Summer School and an International Conference on Pluralism in Islamic
Thought, Education and Political Liberties.

Organised by Reset Dialogues on Civilisations, in collaboration with
King Abdul Aziz Foundation in Casablanca, and Granada Institute in
Granada.

Summer School: 9-14 July 18
Conference: 9-11 July 18

The Call is for students and young scholars, for whom there are a
number of grants, as detailed below. The conference programme will be
circulated by the end of this month.

The Casablanca School combines an educational workshop targeting
young scholars, researchers, journalists and media professionals
together with an international conference addressing the broader
public.

The Seminars’ core topic is the reawakening of Islamic pluralistic
traditions. This is addressed by using critical tools provided by the
social sciences – from domestic law to theology, and from political
philosophy to sociology, anthropology and history. Comparative cases
are also discussed – especially within contexts that share the same
religious background, as well as contexts that once held similar
backgrounds before turning to secular / liberal models.

The School focuses on the multiple historical, theological, social,
philosophical and legal-constitutional dimensions of the complex and
constantly evolving relationships between religion and politics in
societies around the Mediterranean. Special attention is paid to the
role played by education – and that of religious education in
particular – in the historical evolution of this relationship. Within
this thematic framework, the main objective is to trace the diverse
historical conditions behind the formation, perpetuation and
transformation of related concepts and ideas.

The Seminars are organized by Reset DOC and Reset Dialogues (US) in
partnership with the Fondation du Roi Abdul Aziz and the Granada
Institute for Higher Education and Research, and with the support of
Henry Luce Foundation’s Initiative on Religion in International
Affairs and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Working Language: English and Arabic
