We are very happy to announce the publication of the 13th issue of
on_education. Heidi Safia Mirza, Jason Arday, Marko Pecak, Thomas
Geier, Christina Brüning and Ruth Hunstock, Julian Ernst, Karim
Fereidooni as well as Albert Scherr, Birte Schröder and Inken
Carstensen-Egwuom address the question of how racism works:
https://www.oneducation.net/no-13_april-2022/editorial-how-racism-works-systemic-injustices-and-the-false-promises-of-education/

How has racism developed historically and inscribed itself in our
present – not least in educational programs, discourses, institutions
and ideals? Why does it remain so difficult for educational
institutions to critically confront this past that is so deeply
entrenched in the present? How do racism and powerful discourses
about racism produce symbolic orders of belonging? And what
strategies could be starting points to counteract racism in and
through education?

The line-up of this issue is as follows:

Editorial:
How racism works: Systemic injustices and the (false) promises of
education

Thomas Geier:
Racism and discursive belongings

Birte Schröder and Inken Carstensen-Egwuom:
The planetary justice crisis, structural racism and sustainability
education

Julian Ernst:
Digital counter speech and reactance: Critical potentials for
teaching about racism

Jason Arday:
The black professoriate: Assessing the landscape within British
higher education

Karim Fereidooni:
Critical race theory in political education

Marko Pecak:

attitudes?

Christina Brüning and Ruth Hunstock:
Collective amnesia and continuous anti-black racism in Germany: How
the colonial past, and a reluctance to come to terms with it, causes
daily difficulties and why historical learning alone does not help.
An essay.

Albert Scherr:
How racism works – and how it doesn’t work: Why a totalizing
understanding of racism is insufficient for theory and research

Heidi Safia Mirza:
A short history of ‘race’ in British schools: A 75-year timeline
