No one to my knowledge makes attachments explicitly for you. They post documents to share on the newsgroup. Every time someone does you complain about it. I am asking you to stop. It is not against the rules. Is this clear?

I never claimed to.
There are some people who cannot provide the sorts of links you are referring to.
What I was hoping to do was make myself clear enough that people wouldn't make such attachments for me. I don't want unsolicited attachments. But the person to whom I replied post an 50K attachment for me that I didn't even want. Seeing that too much was being lost I the translation, I tried to make myself abundantly clear. Apparently it was pretty unambiguous. I hope it translated okay.
You should be able to configure your client not to automatically download them I would imagine.
We can all dream. But there is no way.
if we did not want to allow attachments we would explicitly turn them off.
My wish indeed.
