No - but I would dread it if ISC (or anyone else) starts hacking in my
>From address (or body text for that matter). There are several ways to
deal with spam; one is to always use a fake email address, another is
to ignore it (and rely on spam filters as much as possible). I choose
the latter option. I don't want that choice made for me. If you want a
munched email address appearing on the NG, just use one.

I wonder what made them decide to do that. Nevertheless, I find the
current setup very satisfactory: ISC keeps *all* posts ever made to
the NG, and I can request all of them to store/search locally. In
fact, my newsreader has a local copy of every post in this NG.

Google is a very satisfactory tool for searching newsgroups.
Unfortunately, they don't index non-Usenet news (AFAIK). It would be
nice if ISC mirrored the NG (perhaps write-only) to a Usenet group in
the alt hierarchy, so Google would index the posts.

While the news server is old (and proven!) technology, my reader has
an interface that I'm happy and comfortable with, and allows me to
read offline if I need to. The group/knowledgeware programs that I
have seen (not that many, I admit) have not impressed me much.

Many news readers offer the option of not downloading posts larger
than a certain size or number of lines.

Perhaps something like that will happen in the future, but these sites
(and don't forget Ramon's!) don't replace a newsgroup.
