I had to take this with support myself two years ago. What Seppo and Ricardo have said pretty much sums it up. The files are kept for seven days, after which they will be purged... If the system is restarted. Or, more precisely, if the journal session has been completed seven days ago, where a journal session goes from JRNSTART to JRNSTOP.

From ISC support (Rath Lee):

"In 4.X, you can use PPURGE^JRNUTIL to purge all files that ended more than 7 days ago (or whatever is set in the configuration manager) which are earlier than the file containing the oldest open transaction."

I would suggest you make this an OS-level (since this is C4) scheduled task so that files are purged regularly.

I wonder if this will behave differently in the next release? :P
