Coco water exports up 300% Published on Friday, 01 June 2012 00:00 Coconut water exports jumped 300 percent in the first quarter of the year to 4.4 million liters, after the popularity of the refreshing beverage started to take off overseas, the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) said. Last year, the country exported only 1.1 million liters in the same period. PCA Administrator Euclides G. Forbes has announced that the value increased 260.56 percent with this quarter’s earnings of $4.8 million compared with the 2011 figure of $1.3 million. The natural product was exported to the United States, Australia and the Netherlands, all of whose markets saw a surge in coconut water consumption. Americans were the biggest consumers, downing 3.7 million liters this year, a 427 percent surge in consumption of the beverage amounting to $4 million, versus last year’s 796,887 liters. Meanwhile, the Netherlands imported 189,800 liters, an increase of 493 percent, driving up earnings from $28,000 to $208,602.
