(Photo from Facebook) A senior official with the Indonesian Justice and Human Rights Ministry died while accompanying the minister, Amir Syamsuddin, on his visit to Tokyo. The head of the ministry-run Human Rights Research and Development Agency, Ramly Hutabarat, died on Monday in Tokyo after suffering a heart attack. He was 59. “He died at about 12 at midday Tokyo time. Pak Ramly died because of the heart disease he had been suffering from,” Justice and Human Rights Ministry spokesman Goncang Raharjo said on Wednesday. Goncang said Ramly was in Japan to accompany Amir during his meeting with the Japanese justice minister. Ramly’s remains are expected to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday (Jakarta time). The viewing will be held at ministry headquarters in Kuningan, South Jakarta, at 8 p.m. “Pak Ramly will be buried at a cemetery in Ciputat [Tangerang] tomorrow,” Goncang said. Ramly was born in the North Sumatra town of Sibolga on March 15, 1953. He was a staff expert for the justice ministry between 2007 and 2009. He then worked as the director of state administrative law, before being appointed the head of the research and development agency.
