Bridge collapses Date August 26, 2012 HONG KONG. One of the longest bridges in northern China has collapsed nine months after it opened, triggering a storm of criticism from Chinese internet users and underscoring questions about the quality of construction in China's rapid expansion. A 100-metre section of a ramp of the eight-lane bridge in the city of Harbin dropped 30 metres to the ground on Friday. Three people were killed and five were injured. Questions about materials, construction and engineering have been the subject of national debate since two trains collided on the same track last year in the city of Wenzhou. The crash killed 40 people and injured 191. An investigation blamed flaws in the design of the signalling equipment. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
