More than 600 students from an Islamic boarding school in Burneh district,
Bangkalan regency, East Java, attacked a house with stones and sticks after
allegations that a colleague was beaten up by the house-owner.

The house owner, Muzammil, was alleged to have attacked Abdul Karim, 20, a
student of Darul Hikmah Islamic Boarding School, when the latter was going home
from Burneh Market.

Karim suffered bruises on his right arm.

Before the attack against the house, Karim's friend, Masud, said he and four
other students had tried to clarify why Muzammil had beaten their friend up.
Muzammil, he alleged, attacked Karim again instead of giving an explanation.

“We fought back, and mobilized other students to go to Muzammil's house,” Masud
said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

Bangkalan Police precinct chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Endar Priantoro, present at the
scene after the incident, ordered his men to calm the fighting parties.

“We will investigate the case and gather information from witnesses. We have
also obtained evidence from the attack,” Endar said. (fzm/swd)
