(Photo: EPA) If the dangdut king wants to be president of Indonesia, then sultry dangdut singer Inul Daratista says she can be his vice president. But the singer and businesswoman, publicly known not to see eye-to-eye with Rhoma Irama, was just making light of the latter’s aspirations for the presidency. “I can accompany Om Haji [Rhoma] as his vice president candidate, hahahaha,” she said in a text message sent to Tempo.co on Tuesday. The 66-year-old Rhoma announced on Sunday that he had agreed to run for the highest political office in Indonesia if nominated, although no political parties have come forward to back him. A self-proclaimed conservative Muslim, Rhoma has publicly criticized singers like Inul and Dewi Persik, whom he said have tainted dangdut with their vulgar movements. Inul rose to dangdut fame in 2003 with her suggestive lyrics and gyrations called “goyang ngebor.” Rhoma deemed it too vulgar and banned Inul from performing any of his songs in her shows. He also criticized Inul’s 2003 album titled “Goyang Inul.” Inul, however, didn’t want to comment further on Rhoma’s presidential ambitions. “He’s still sensitive about me, so he can do whatever he wants to do, it’s none of my business,” she said [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
