Police Nab Three Terror Suspects in Central Sulawesi
SP/John Lory | November 27, 2012

Palu. Police have arrested three suspected terrorists in the town of Ampana in
Central Sulawesi's Tojo Una-Una district, a police officer said on Tuesday.

Adj. Sr. Comr. Dicky, the deputy chief of detectives of the Central Sulawesi
Police, said the three were arrested in Ampana in the early hours of Sunday,
Nov. 25, and were now being questioned at the provincial police headquarters in
Palu.

The three were identified as SH, 32, MF, 27, and MZ, 25.

"They arrived from Tojo Una-Una on Monday at around 11 a.m.," Dicky said.

He declined to give further details, except that police were still
investigating the case.

Local residents said the three men sold noodles at Kalan Mohammad Hatta in
downtown Ampana. Police were said to have confiscated from them two motorcycles
that had no registration plates, one laptop and a liquid substance that was
suspected to be a raw material for bombs.

In the luggage compartment of one of the motorcycles, police also found a hand
gun with five bullets, leaflets containing a challenge addressed to the
National Police Densus 88 special anti-terror detachment as well as a number of
books on jihad.

Police sources here said the three were known to be motorcycle thieves
operating in Central Sulawesi.

Brig. Gen, Dewa Parsana who heads the Central Sulawesi Police, said the three
suspects were believed to have come from Malino, a transmigration settlement in
Tojo Una-Una, and had only returned there recently after fleeing from the
Tamanjeka and Uweralulu areas in the Poso Pesisir subdistrict of Poso, where
police were conducting an intensive operation to hunt down terrorists.

The operation followed the gruesome murder of two police officers in the area
that police believe is being used as a base by a group of terrorists for
conducting paramilitary training and exercises.
