Papua ambush: four civilians dead Netty Dharma Somba, The Jakarta Post, Papua | Archipelago | Fri, February 22 2013, 3:40 PM A- A A+ Four civilians are dead in the latest shooting in Papua, which claimed the lives of eight Indonesia soldiers. The civilians, identified as Johanis Palimbung, Uli, Markus Renden and Rudi Lallo, were construction workers. They were on their way to the local airstrip with the military personnel when they were ambushed by unknown armed men. “They were on their way to Timika that day for security reasons,” one of the victims’ family representatives, Speedy Paereng told The Jakarta Post on Friday. Papua Police spokesman Sr. Comr. I Gede Sumertha Jaya said four other civilians were injured in the shootings. Member of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Paulus Sumino believes that the shootings were related to the Puncak regential election. “The shooting is intended to disrupt the final phase of the local election process,” he said.(dic) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
