Yes. It is generally always better. You can always roll-back if something
breaks. So far I've managed to maintain backward compatibility in the
firmware, so you shouldn't even have to rebuild your existing apps.

Nope. Of course, the OTG-specific features will not work (primarily USB
device mode).
