1) Either way is fine.

2) There might be right-angle USB connectors with the same footprint. Other
options are getting rid of the connector and soldering wires to the board
OR there are USB cables that are right angle, but on the other axis from
what you sent, i.e. the cable will go "up" with respect to the board.
