AFAIK, there's not much you can do about it. USB devices are not allowed to draw more than 500mA from the bus. Some phones have clever way of detecting a charger and charging faster, but this is typically mutually exclusive with having a data connection.
Options I'm aware of: - Reduce power consumption by dimming the screen / turning it off. - Find a device that has a separate charging port (those exist). - Find a device that uses less than 500mA with your app running.
