To make it clear, there should be no difference between the IOIO v1 and
IOIO-OTG (which is the latest, recommended hardware version) in terms of
which Android devices they do or don't support. They can both run the
latest version of firmware
My comment about using an old device was related to the annoyance in
upgrading the old IOIOs, requiring you to use an old Android device.
I also strongly recommend against buying IOIOs from arbitrary
manufacturers. I have no control over what firmware they put on them and
their quality control. I've seen many cases where non-official
manufacturers use cheap replacements on some of the parts without actually
knowing what they're doing.
I recommend buying boards made by SeeedStudio or SparkFun, directly or
through one of their resellers.
