Ion will apply client window size hints (e.g. xterm's font-based size increments) to a frame being resized, and thus it is possible that a frame doesn't return to exactly its original size once back from maximized size if the original size wasn't natural for these size hints (caused by another frame having been resized to its natural size for the active window's size hints). -- Tuomo
