I don't know. IIRC I had to compile some locale files to get UTF-8/ setlocale working at all. How you do this depends on the OS/distribution. In Debian I have the following lines in /etc/locale.gen: fi_FI UTF-8 fi_FI ISO-8859-1 fi_FI ISO-8859-15 and run locale-gen to generate the files. By the way, have you enabled Xft? It might also be the source of trouble. -- Tuomo
