Just configured the locales manually - same results as before
(dpkg-reconfigure locales). Thus I assume it is rather a problem
regarding X than ion - and therefore I guess it's time to search
some mailing-list/newsgroup where I am not off-topic.

Good guess - I have. Disabling it doesn't provide any changes.

Thanks for the hints (at least I am now able to configure locales :-)

Ps: keep up the great work! I guess I can leave with "Alt-C"ing the
error-message away on startup for a while.
