The "default" version would be symlinked to as 'ion' and other versions
possibly with the version number appended, similarly to what Debian does
with binaries now. But in an application directory scheme, I'm not sure 
if it would be necessary to link to non-default versions.

Well, 5.0.1 is not even officially released yet and it seems, given the
last two bug reports, that there are some new bugs in it... although I
can't make either of them appear.
