FYI, I get the Mozilla focus problem all the time (Debian Ion2, Debian Mozilla 1.7). To "fix" it, you can do:

Go to the unresponsive Mozilla window
Ctrl-N to make a new Mozilla window
Ctrl-W to close the new Mozilla window

The unresponsive Mozilla window should now take input again.

The same thing happens for me (FreeBSD 4.x, ion2, firefox 0.9), but I'm normally able to fix it by merely pressing DEFAULT_MOD+K (which goes into a sub key select) then pressing escape to cancel out. At that point I can type into fields again.
