on a more serious note I am sitting here waiting for my girlfriend's
notebook to have a similar recall. And no it's not a Dell nor an
apple. How many other companies used the same battery packs? To be
fair to the company I won't mention any names. After all, it may be
suitable for cooking bacon for reasons totally unrelated to the
current recall?

A little historical note. In the 1990s. when Apple had a similar
notebook problem -- Powerbooks caught fire and damaged the company's
reputation at the time -- the problematic Powerbook acquired a funny
nickname inside the company: "The Hindenbook." Inside of Apple, I
was told at the time (thought it may be only part of the Apple urban
legend), the code name for the follow-on laptop model was "The Apology."
