No case, and it sounds like that may be the issue. But it seems like if it was
the proximity sensor, you'd think pressing the Home button would wake it back
up.

She definitely is not seeing the Apple logo, so I agree that it is not really
rebooting.

She upgraded to iOS4 last night, hopefully that fixes whatever weirdness she's
seeing.

If it really was rebooting, the user would see the Apple logo and it
would take at least a minute to complete. I'm not sure if the proximity
sensor is normally active when the speakerphone is on, but it sounds
like the proximity sensor is turning the screen off unexpectedly.

First off, are they using a case with the iPhone and if so, is it
designed for that model? (For example, cases for the original iPhone
somewhat fit the iPhone 3G and 3GS but usually have issues due to the
location change of the proximity sensor.

Subject: [Iphone-chat] Weird reboot

I'm fairly new to the iPhone, so forgive me if I miss something obvious.
I won't get my iPhone until next week, so everything is my Blackberry
infused interpretation of what my users tell me :-)

One of my users says her phone shuts down a lot when she's on speaker
phone, said it did it to her 6 times yesterday. For example, she uses
speaker phone to check her voice mail, in the middle of a message, the
screen goes dark and the audio goes silent like it's rebooting, but then
after a few seconds it comes back on and the vm is still active (i.e.
"press 1 to play again", etc.).

It's an iPhone 3GS, I'm not sure if she's on OS v3 or iOS4. I suggested
she update to iOS4 if she's not already and to let me know if that fixed
the problem.

I'm hoping someone else has seen this and can give me some ideas on what
to check on her phone.

Thanks!

Darhl
