It's a fairly long task, but I've only had to do it two or three times since my 
3GS, discounting beta builds. The process is a lot less painful under iOS 5.

I can't see the point of launch pad at all. I'm not willing to spend any time 
setting it up at all. Or using it. Or launching it. I resent seeing it at all 
when I download something from the MAS.
