Yes, the silly Mute/Vibrate switch is a killer! I added it to the list because 
of a problem I had several months ago with my iPad: I could not hear the 
keyboard clicks and system sounds (sound familiar?), but ALMOST everything else 
worked, if a little funkily. For example, videos would play normally, but the 
sound would cut out every minute or so.

Turns out, the Mute setting on my iPad was defaulted to On whether I flicked 
the switch or not (an obscure bug). And, since Mute only mutes sounds 
selectively (why does Apple think this is a good idea?), I did not know this. 
Once I was able to turn Mute off, everything worked normally.

Anyway, I hope you have this fixed on your new iPhone!
