So, I stopped by a Verizon store in a nearby town. They didn't have any idea 
what I was talking about when I asked them to confirm that the Verizon iPhone 5 
was both a Verizon CDMA phone and an unlocked GSM phone, though they did say 
that I wasn't the first to ask.

In any case, I've now placed my order for a Verizon phone--shows 4 weeks out.
