It may not be true for many users, but for many other users, searching in Mail
for iOS 7 has taken a turn for the bad.

This is a real problem:

        • Enter the desired search term or terms.
                • iOS Mail will search for the terms in both the emails' header
areas and bodies.
                • Terms can appear as a phrase but also individually or as
parts of words.
                • iOS Mail will return all messages that include all terms.

So if you are searching for a precise string of text, results will include
emails containing ANY of the individual terms in the string. If you want to
restrict your search to the subject line, you can't. Mail is searching
Subject/To/Cc/From fields and message body for EACH term in a string. Results
CAN be, and often are, less than useful. Sure, it makes it easy to just tap
search, enter terms, and go. But if the results are meaningless...

I was searching online to see is there were a way to restrict a search to a
string of terms. I had tried encapsulating the terms in quotes, but that
didn't work. Is there a way to specify a search string of terms? to limit the
search to any of the following: Subject/To/Cc/From fields, message body ?

I found this article:

------
http://blog.fastmail.fm/2013/09/17/ios-7-mail-app-uses-multi-folder-body-searches-by-default/

• Rather than searching the current folder, by default, it searches all
folders. To do that, it opens many IMAP connections at once for searching each
folder concurrently. We’re not sure on the upper bound on the number of
connections it will make, but saw at least 10 in one case.

• Rather than searching the Subject/To/Cc/From fields, by default, it searches
all those fields as well as the message body.
Both of these changes are actually great for the user experience, but they
create potentially large headaches for IMAP server maintainers.
------

Some of use can't or will not use GMAIL. Is there an alternative email client
for iOS 7 that allows for searching where one can specific a search string and
specify Subject/To/Cc/From fields, message body, mbox etc?

Thanks,
Kevin
