I did end up finding Joe Hewitt's iUI and it looks like he's done a wonderful job, which seems to be the case with all of his products. ;-)
Looks like I *might* be using some of his code already, I just wasn't sure it was called iUI. There is an iphonenav.css,js on http://groupaware.mobi/iphone/#_Samples which I've been grabbing code from to make my application feel more 'native' to the iPhone. Hopefully I can use Joe's samples to my advantage for creating a robust application which feels like a native iPhone application.
