Hey RobG, you will notice some anxious coders who do this purposely (not just because they are thinking of having a different version for the regular browser). They catch the useragent string and if it is not the iphone or itouch then they wil redirect you to a different page. They are anxious of course that you may "leverage" their code. And you are right - it is totally the opposite of what this is all about, but it is their choice.
And here is a tip ;) if you want to see the code just change the user agent string for your browser - it is very simple to do and will tell the site in particular that your browser is an iphone / itouch. You can find instructions on the web (really just one quick change). If you need details just let me know. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of RobG Sent: Thursday, December 20, 2007 4:50 AM To: iPhoneWebDev Subject: Re: iUI: two problems On Dec 20, 7:21 am, Chris <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I'm building an iPhone interface for a social networking platform I'm > developing. > > You can see it by going to one of these sites on your iPhone: > > http://www.runnerplus.com/iphone/http://www.fordtruckspace.com/iphone/ Why does that site refuse access to those not using an iPhone or iPod Touch? The whole point of the web is to be utterly UA agnostic, making browser-specific sites will put the internet back 10 years or so. [...] > I am having two problems: > > 1. I'd like to at least investigate and understand the issue, if only you realised that it doesn't require an iPhone or iPod Touch to fix the vast majority of browser-related issues. -- Rob --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "iPhoneWebDev" group.
