p.s.   "difficult or impossible to do (properly)" may not have been the 
best choice of words.  Take a look at Matteo Spinelli's example at 
Cubiq.org:

It's the best or at least one of the best implementations out there and 
it may work for your purposes.  I haven't tested it extensively or used 
it in an app and there are some caveats listed, but it should be worth a 
try.  So when I said "difficult" I wasn't too far off the mark -- you 
can see that a great amount of effort went into perfecting this approach.
