I originally posted issue #147 last July. Unfortunately Apple has not
corrected this problem through iPhone OS 3.1.3. You can manually work
around this hangup by clicking the + button on the Mobile Safari
Navigator Bar at the bottom of the screen and Selecting "Cancel" when
you return from Mail. This frees up the back button and everything
again works normally. However this is not a very satisfactory way of
handling the problem.

However there appears to be hope that Apple may have corrected the
problem in iPad OS 3.2. The return from Mail works fine in the iPad
Simulator, whereas it does not in the iPhone Simulator using iPhone OS
3.1.3 - the latest iPhone OS available (it behaves just like the
actual iPhone). Whether iPhone OS 3.2 will ever come to the iPhone or
whether it really solves the problem on an actual iPhone or iPad
remains to be seen. I guess we will know shortly.
