Not sure which manufactures hardware you are using and I'm
no expert but....
For Dell equipment eth0 and the BMC for the IMPI have
seperate MAC addresses (using Intel NIC chipset) and thus you can not use the
same IP for IPMI and the regular system. Internaly there are two
NIC's on the wire and each has it's own MAC and thus needs to have it's own
unique IP for anything else to find it. Your upstream switch will get very
confused if you use the same IP for both devices, it is jsut like configuring
two servers wit hthe same IP. Also using the Intel chipset is it possible
to have the eth0 NIC on one vlan and the BMC/IPMI interface on a seperate vlan
if vlan tagging is enabled.

Subject: [Ipmitool-devel] ipmi over lan not working.
Hi all,
I've configured ipmitool for 2-3 DELL servers in my organization. But I;m not able to do it on one server.
I'm getting the following error when I try to access it over lan.
Not able to establish lan session.
Locally its working fine.
I've ipmi and openipmi on the server.
And already configred it with the ip address and username password.
Please help me..its urgent.
